Katrina's Forecast Track Shifts West, Northern Gulf Needs to Watch
      #50495 - Fri Aug 26 2005 11:21 PM

The futures markets are closed until Monday. Not only that, you would need to be set up for that kind of trading before now. Nat. Gas and oil prices have been volatile of late (I'll spare everyone the chart reading), but some of the volatility this week was due to the hurricane. The markets are sensitive to any disruption right now because there is no refining capacity-there are half as many refineries today vs. 20 years ago, yet more people, etc. As a veteran of that line of work of 11 years, unless there is a big surprise, it is hard to benefit from these things this late in the game.

I do wonder how much "hurricane" premium is built into the energy markets since it is well known to investors in those markets that we are in a multi-decadal active period.
