Katrina's Angels
      #64275 - Sat Dec 17 2005 10:56 AM

Katrina's Angels is a group of grassroots volunteers that is in this disaster aftermath relief effort for the long haul. Clearly, the media's attention has shifted to more 'newsworthy' stories, and yet widespread devastation is real and the needs remain urgent in AL, MS & LA, and all across the country wherever the displaced have landed. It will take many years for our Gulf Coast and those people touched by this catastrophe to recover. Where large government agencies and charitable organizations leave off, we are here to fill in the gaps. How can we as Americans, ignore the fact that there is 9,000 square miles of devastation, 1,000 miles of Gulf coastline destroyed, over a half million jobs lost, and 2.2 million affected by the ravages of the hurricanes of 2005?

If you've been affected by the recent hurricanes, or are looking for a way to make a difference from home as a volunteer, please contact us. We are a a non profit 501(c)(3) organization, and are providing resources such as housing and employment placement, direct relief for displaced family's that have lost everything, special medical needs, and much more. We are committed to holding survivors hands through this recovery process, and empowering them to build a promising future. You don't have to be at 'ground zero' to make a difference.

So many people express their desire to help somehow, some way, but don't know how. We would love the opportunity to show you how. If you got to this website and are reading this post, you have a skill to provide in online research, or how about posting our flyers to discussion forums and blogs? Or faxing our flyers to hotels/shelters? Or conducting simple intakes with evacuee's to assure they are assisted on all levels? Maybe you have technical website experience you can offer. Maybe you are great at taking meeting minutes, or fundraising, or identifying resources?

We have a variety of many satisfying projects that will impact these families lives in a significant way. Give us your time (even if only an hour or two per week, weekends, or as much as you can give), your caring for people in need, and we can help you help others. Come join us in assisting your fellow Americans rebuild their lives and be a part of the solution, not the problem! Katrina's Angels has seen where the needs are, and we will continue to fulfill them when any National Disaster arises. That is our mission and committment.

We are especially in need currently of people to assist with housing placement. FEMA housing vouchers expire Feb. 7th, 2006. We predict there will be a serious homeless crisis and we need to mobilize as many people as we can to get evacuees into permanent housing situations. Even if you've not had experience volunteering in this area, be assured you will have good instructional training and support through Katrina's Angels. We are here to empower you so you might do the same for those in need!

If you are an evacuee in need of housing placement, or are displaced in an area affected by the recent hurricanes and need housing, please contact us at:

1-866-861-8890

If you require employment placement assistance, resources, have special medical needs, etc., please either contact us through the number listed above, or the email posted below.

We look forward to helping you help others!
