On the National Hurricane Center site, one of the Floater Images is labeled "INVEST". No number or anything and I don't know how official that is or anything (though it is on the NHC site). Looking at the Infrared Satellite, it seems that the system lacks deep convection but the structure is quite organized with a well-defined circulation. Also, wind shear maps from CIMSS show low wind shear in the area and SST maps show warm ocean waters all around it. This indicates to me that if deep convection were to develop and sustain, this thing could take off in a hurry, though this is just me.

Also, I have a question, where do you find out when a system has officially gotten an INVEST number?

Please review the Rules on posting and check the Main Page for a link to the NRL site. Invests will be found there.
