My Uncle who moved to S. Florida in the early 50's had a rhyme he used to tell us when we were kids that sums up activity during the hurricane season.
June: Too soon
July: Standby
August: Prepare you must
September: Remember
October: All Over
It's a great saying and works in most years but not all years and not to be relied upon... except possibly for September Remember and as Mitch has taught us October is not all over.
As Paul Kocin once said on TWC after a sudden, unexpected blizzard slammed some city silly in a time when they were normally safe from such blizzards. Not his exact words but they were something to the effect of .. its the forecasts that get busted badly that are always the worst storms somehow.
So, I am pointing it out that when weather behaves according to rhymes we rarely have a problem... unfortunately weather is not as reliable as climatology and cannot always be relied upon to conform to rhymes. Life would be easier if it did.
