As of this posting, one of the GOES EastPac floaters was covering Invest 96C, a Tropical Depression-esque appearing area of weather a few hundred miles West-NW of the Hawaiin islands.
My question in regards to this for Ask and Tell - Do GOES EastPac floaters normally cover storms that are well within CentPac's Hurricane area, and darn near WestPac's (Jtwc) area of operations and coverage?
Yes, they do. It's still in the NOAA realm of operations -- in this case, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center -- and GOES floaters are used to support those and other similar operations.
