Saharan Air Layer (SAL) - Photo 6-24-09

We often discuss the Saharan Air Layer (SAL) and how it interacts with development of hurricanes, such as the graphics from University of Wisconsin CMISS.

Well, NASA has a great discussion about and photo of a Saharan dust storm crossing the Atlantic taken on June 24th, 2009 on their Earth Observatory site, giving us a high quality visual of this often discussed event:
