slow? not really. florida gets hit from storms coming out of the caribbean in october every few years. this could take a while to do, but look through various years in the archives at www.weather.unisys.com... particularly during the early part of the 20th century. you'll see that up until the 1960s south florida took plenty of hits in october. in the later 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s (except for irene in 1999) things went slack. michelle missed south in 2001 and wilma got you in '05, so the october hurricane every few years seems to be back in action.
