DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Teddy was located near latitude 12.8 North, longitude 42.8 West. Teddy is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h), and a westward motion is expected to continue today, followed by a slightly slower west-northwestward motion tonight and Tuesday. A turn toward the northwest and a further decrease in forward speed is forecast by Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Steady strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Teddy is forecast to become a hurricane by Tuesday night. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004 mb (29.65 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Large swells generated by Tropical Storm Teddy are expected to reach the Lesser Antilles and the northeastern coast of South America on Wednesday.
