SUMMARY OF 1000 PM CDT...0300 UTC...INFORMATION ----------------------------------------------- LOCATION...33.5N 93.5W ABOUT 70 MI...115 KM N OF SHREVEPORT LOUISIANA MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...30 MPH...45 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...N OR 360 DEGREES AT 12 MPH...19 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...1008 MB...29.77 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- Flash Flood Watches and Warnings are in effect for portions of far southeast Texas through much of Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas, and including parts of the mid Mississippi Valley. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1000 PM CDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Barry was located near latitude 33.5 North, longitude 93.5 West. The depression is moving toward the north near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue through tonight. Barry is expected to turn toward the northeast on Monday. Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph (45 km/h) with higher gusts. Some weakening is forecast during the next 24 hours, and Barry is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone by Monday evening. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1008 mb (29.77 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- RAINFALL: Barry is expected to produce additional rain accumulations of 3 to 6 inches across portions of the lower Mississippi Valley with isolated maximum amounts of 10 inches across eastern Arkansas, western Tennessee and Kentucky, southeast Missouri, and northwest Mississippi. Additional rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches with isolated storm totals of 10-15 inches are expected across south-central Louisiana. Dangerous flash flooding and some additional river flooding is expected locally throughout the central Gulf Coast and lower Mississippi Valley. TORNADOES: A couple of tornadoes are possible tonight across parts of southeast Louisiana, Mississippi, western Alabama, eastern Arkansas, and western Tennessee. On Monday the risk of a few tornadoes will expand northeastward from the Mid-South toward the Ohio Valley.
