Keith Hurricane Once Again and SUBTD
05:58 AM EDT - 05 October 2000

Keith, once again, has become a Hurricane. Again, before landfall, moving west northwest toward the Mexican Coast. It has come back a little better than I expected. Folks along the eastern Mexican coast have Hurricane Warnings to deal with. As a minimal Hurricane, it will cause some minor damage and plenty of rain.

Speaking of plenty of rain, SubTD#1, which cause oh so much rain in Florida, is heading generally east away from the US. The "SubTD" snuck up on a lot of us and caused quite a bit of flooding. Outside of this there is nothing much going on.

Question regarding the Sub TD (#1)

Is there a way that the system could evolve into a bonifide tropical system and then double back on itself, following the pull of Keith. Or is this land area of Florida interrupting the East-West Flow right now. I seem to remember Gordon 1 doing the looped de loop this time of year and had everyone suspended in disbelief while it made up its mind which direction it was going to finally be in.

Direction of Keith? (#2)

Well...I must be a novice..because when I looked at the loops this morning..it sure appears that Keith is heading NNW...and not WMW as forecast and discussed by the National Hurricane Center....Could this scenario play out?....Keith will stay out...at least reach category 3...and soon take a north...then a NNE....eventually hitting the north Gulf coast somewhere as a major hurricane....could someone else tell me my eyes are playing tricks on me? It sure looks more north than anything to me....

Hopefully you are seeing a temporary wobble. But, that is exactly what Opal did. She had everyone convinced she was going to Mexico and she got out in the Central Gulf, became a high Cat 4, temporary 5 and decided to go to Pensacola for Fall break. The reason I know so much about this one is that my parents live about 138 miles East of Pensacola and when they announced cat 5 winds, I freaked out. I was so glued to the tv that I couldnt move. I don't wish harm on anyone, but really, that would be a devastating thing to happen to any of the coastal areas.

do any of you guys think, AT THIS POINT, that Keith could or will come back into the Gulf (because of the trough/ridge) and again regenerate and make aim in the northern gulf or northern western florida? i haven't had time to look at all the things out there that may play with keith over the next five to six days? i would be very interested in the opinion of you guys right now. thanks. small town in south ala.
