Allison Flood
08:17 PM EDT - 09 June 2001

Former Tropical Storm Allison is causing a major flood near Houston Texas. The first storm of the season and it has been a major story so far dumping feet of rain in the areas of Southeast Texas and Louisiana.

Allison just doesn't want to die. It's no longer a depression, but may slip off the coast, which may cause it to regenerate, yet still not moving much. Allison, an early tropical storm, has caused amazing amounts of destruction and disruption already. If this regenerates over the Gulf, it will not be good. 20.58 inches of rain at Houston/Hobby airport.

This emphasizes the point that even relatively "weak" tropical systems can cause havoc. We wish everyone in the Texas/Louisiana area the best of luck and God bless.

gulf but everything else is on track. SVB

THE REMNANT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM FORMERLY ASSOCIATED WITH TROPICAL
DEPRESSION ALLISON HAS CONTINUED TO BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED THIS
MORNING WHILE DRIFTING SLOWLY TO THE NORTHEAST. SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS HAVE INCREASED NEAR AND TO THE EAST OF LOW PRESSURE
CENTER...WHICH IS CURRENTLY LOCATED ABOUT 40 MILES SOUTHEAST OF
GALVESTON TEXAS. DURING THE PAST HOUR...AN OFFSHORE OIL RIG WELL
EAST OF THE CENTER REPORTED WINDS OF 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 46 MPH IN
SQUALLS JUST A FEW HUNDRED FEET ABOVE THE SURFACE. UPPER-LEVEL
WINDS HAVE BECOME A LITTLE MORE FAVORABLE FOR REDEVLOPMENT...AND
SOME ADDITIONAL ORGANIZATION AND STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE.

Does it look on the infared that possibly a small amount of convection is firing near the center. If it is, could it be an early sign of redevelopement?

check out her water vapor. Like I posted
she has Dry air around her and until it moves
out she will not develop while she heads east.
Maybe if she stays out away from land in 24-36
hrs.

Too much water! (#5)

I am writing from the perspective of one who has had to deal with 20 inches of rain and watching neighbors lose their battles to keep the water out of their homes. I am praying that Allison just goes away! The National Weather Service here is saying 2 to 4 more inches today, which will devastate those whose homes are borderline. Your prayers and thoughts are most appreciated!

good luck, I hope for all yours sake that
she gets pushed out to the east so TX and LA
can get NW of the system in dryer air. Today
and tonight should be the last of your rain
that I see as of now.

It sure does look like its trying to regain strength. NHC not saying much, by looking at satellite data it seems to be moving a bit more easterly. Wouldn't be surprised to see this system become a storm or at least a depression later today.

allison updated position.... (#9)

Allison since she is a weak system will have many
swirls in her, especially since its a system coming
back off of land. The original swirl was located
near 29.1 N and 94.2 W. Now another swirl is
located near 29.4 N and 93.5 W. This swirl is
gaining strength and under the thunderstorms
moving NE towards SE LA coast. The older original
swirl is located as posted above and rotating now
around the new one. The NHC might have a hard
time wanting to classify 1 but could do eigther
or just leave it be. The models pick the new
swirl and bring her ashore this evening or
tonight say/.
